Convenient and durable moving boxes speed up your move

Make sure you have enough moving boxes. Our durable plastic moving boxes come with a cleanliness guarantee, so you can even pack your clothes in them.

You will need roughly one box per square metre (60 m2 home = 60 boxes).

(1 box = approx. 1 metre of books on a shelf)

A maximum of four packed boxes can be stacked. When packing moving boxes, you should not overfill them. Only pack the boxes up to the handle openings.

Make sure that the box on top of the stack is not too full so that the items do not fall out when the stack is tilted with, for example, a hand truck. Do not leave loose papers on top because wind may blow them away.

Floor protection

Floors should be protected with floor protection cardboard which is fixed to the floor using, for example, Niemi’s orange tape to prevent it from moving. Make sure that the selected tape is suitable for your floors. Remove the tape from the floor immediately after the move.

Pack all items carefully

Paintings, mirrors etc. should be packed carefully using, for example, bubble wrap or reinforced bubble wrap. You can also use corrugated board, corner protectors and cardboard boxes designed for pictures. Write "FRAGILE” clearly on the packaging.

Dishes, china, decorative items etc. should be protected carefully using packing paper or wrapping tissue before packing them in moving boxes.

All loose items from tables, drawers, cupboards, shelves etc. should be packed in moving boxes.

Clothes on hangers should be packed either in Niemi’s wardrobe boxes or in sturdy plastic bags (approx. five hangers per bag, tape the bags shut but leave the hanger hooks outside of the bag). Wardrobe boxes can be rented or bought.

Pillows, blankets, duvets etc. should be packed in sturdy plastic bags. Tape the bags shut carefully with plastic packing tape.

Mattresses, box springs and couches etc. should be protected from dirt using, for example, plastic or stretch film.

Dresser, cabinet etc. doors and drawers should be left unlocked. Doors and drawers will stay closed if you wrap, for example, stretch film around them. Then just tape the key to the side of the door or drawer. (Note! The packing tape should be removed immediately after your move to prevent it from sticking to the furniture and to prevent the surface of the furniture from being damaged).

All furniture and other items with sensitive surfaces should be carefully protected using, for example, bubble wrap, reinforced bubble wrap or corrugated board.

Labelling

Don’t forget that clear labelling will make your move quicker and you will not have to spend so much time looking for items in your new home. Attach the labels on the long sides of the boxes. We offer labels in many different colours so you can, for example, use a specific colour for each room.

Access to the location

You should reserve enough space for a moving van at the latest one day before your move, especially if there is not much space in the yard or street. You can also contact Niemi to discuss the need to reserve metered parking spaces in advance. Easy access to the location makes the process considerably quicker. You should also take winter conditions into consideration.
