Packing

International packing instructions for the self-packer

In international packing, all items need to be packed securely in stackable containers. The goods need to be loaded as tightly as possible from floor to ceiling and the shipment needs to endure the long transportation.

A packing list needs to be drafted for every international shipment. Each box and piece of furniture should be numbered consecutively and recorded on the packing list. You will receive a template for the packing list from us.

Make sure your goods stay intact during the move

The secret to a successful international move lies in good preparation. Whether you’re moving from Finland to another country or from abroad to Finland, these packing tips will ensure your goods stay intact and safe during the move.

If you want to ease up your workload and enjoy an effortless move, our experienced international packers are trained just for this and will be more than happy to help!

Small household items

When moving abroad, always pack in cardboard boxes, no plastic bags or reusable bags are used.

Items should not have room to shift around in the box, but boxes should not be overfilled either.

Boxes should always be carefully sealed. The bottoms and every edge and seam of the boxes are taped to ensure that they stay together.

Fragile objects are wrapped in silk paper and placed upright in the box.

Books and heavy objects are packed in smaller boxes.

You can find a wide range of boxes in different sizes for different use purposes in our online store.

Furniture

All furniture should be protected from scratching.

If possible, furniture should be dismantled and its fastenings removed (screws, wooden pins…).

All drawers and cabinets should be emptied, and all doors need to be sealed for example with stretch wrap. Tape is not recommended because of adhesive marks.

Mirrors, TVs and paintings should be packed in, for example, heavy-duty bubble wrap.

Tape should be placed on the rear side of the package and clearly marked with the text “FRAGILE” on top. When packing paintings, the paper side should ALWAYS face the surface of the painting, not the plastic side.

Furniture protection can be done by using, for example, stretch wrap or heavy-duty bubble wrap, which can be found in our online store.

It is advisable to reinforce sensitive corners, for example with cardboard.

Filling in the packing list

The packing list is filled in with the name, address and contact details of the mover.

Each separate box and piece of furniture is then listed in sequential numbering order.

When the furniture is unpacked, each separate piece has its own line/number.

The description is written clearly in English. The quantity, weight or value need not be recorded.
