NIEMI is a frontrunner in corporate responsibility
We have been implementing sustainability measures for almost a quarter of a century. In 2001, the “LEX Niemi” law was passed, allowing five people to travel in the cab of a removal truck in addition to the driver.
Our transport fleet is our biggest source of emissions and has been running on fossil-free fuels – electricity, biogas or renewable diesel – since 2019.
The hybrid thermal power plant that will be installed at our Helsinki site in 2024 will reduce our total emissions by a conservative estimate of about a third.
We have set a zero emission target for 2035.
As a market leader, we also want to lead the way in sustainability
Our sustainability activities are steered by an ESG steering group, which is responsible for the implementation of the sustainability action plan and objectives. ESG stands for Environmental, Social and Governance. It refers to the environmental, social and governance issues that provide the framework for our sustainability activities.
Sustainability is closely linked to the daily lives, goals and business activities of every person on the Peninsula. The tools we use include sustainability training, communication, policies and codes of conduct.
Our quality and environmental management systems are built to ISO standards and cover all our operations and processes. Niemi holds ISO 9001 Quality Certification and ISO 14001 Environmental Certification from Kiwa Inspecta.
We promote the circular economy
We offer our customers services that enhance the reuse and recycling of assets and materials.
In our removal and logistics services, we aim to minimise waste and maximise the reuse of materials. This improves efficiency, reduces environmental impact and supports sustainable development.
We have our own recycling station at all our sites and report to our customers on the emissions from transport and the benefits of recycling used furniture.
Our code of conduct
Our Code of Conduct describes the way we work and brings them together in a set of common guidelines and principles. As a family-owned company for more than 40 years, we want to grow and develop our business in a long-term perspective, respecting people and the environment. Our aim is to serve a changing world with a big heart. We do this by upholding our values and ethical principles.
All of us at Niemi have a responsibility to play our part in ensuring that our daily choices are guided by our common values, and to be bold in addressing abuses. We have a common way of doing things – a United Niemi.
