The cost of a removal service – what do you pay for and how do you save?
At Niemi, the price of the removal service is always clear and predictable. You can choose the solution that suits your needs – from an affordable online move to a smaller apartment or an individually designed full-service move with additional services.
What is the price of the removal service?
The price of a removal service is influenced by, for example
- the size of the home
- the amount of goods to be moved
- the distance to move
- the services chosen and
- the moving conditions.
Moving conditions include the distance, the floor of the dwelling and the possibility of using a lift. The day of the move can also play a role: moving in the middle of the month is usually cheaper than moving at the turn of the month.
The price is also affected by the services you choose. For example, you can choose just a removal van and driver, or a full-service move that includes packing, transport, putting things in place, and installation work such as removing and installing light fittings or a washing machine, for example.
Items that are particularly heavy or require special handling, such as pianos or antique furniture, may also add to the cost.
We recommend that our customers take out removal insurance. Without additional insurance, the amount of compensation for any damage for which Niemi is liable is determined by the Road Haulage Act and is up to a maximum of EUR 20 per kilo. Price of removal service as hourly fee vs. fixed contract price
Most of the time we do removals at a fixed contract price. For example, all moves purchased from our online store are contracted.
If the customer so wishes, we can also invoice the move on an hourly basis, in which case the final invoice is based on the number of hours worked. For these moves, we can usually give the customer an estimate in advance.
Charging begins when the removal team loads the tools at our warehouse and leaves to drive to the site and ends when the team returns to our office. We always charge from the first 15 minutes. The charging period also includes rest breaks in accordance with working time legislation.
The hourly rates for our consumer removals are the same on weekdays, evenings and also on Saturdays.
How to save on the price of removal services
The cheapest way to move is to book your move well in advance, pack and protect your belongings and access routes yourself. We recommend using plastic, durable moving boxes for all your moves, as they will speed up your move considerably.
Buying your move online will usually get you the best price.
It’s a good idea to start going through your belongings well in advance of your move, so you have time to sell, donate and recycle items you don’t need before you move.
Example prices for removal services
The cost of moving varies a lot from place to place. Here are a few example prices from the capital region, without additional services:
- 380-630 euros for a one-bedroom (>40 m2)
- 630-970 euros for a two-bedroom (41-60 m2)
- 970-1390 euros for a three-bedroom (61-80 m2).

Additional services and their impact on price
We offer a range of services to help you move. The additional services you order will be included in the price of your personalised service move. Here are some of them:

Protection of access routes and movable furniture. Please note that for safety reasons, our movers will wear shoes throughout the move.

We can pack all your furniture or even just your kitchen utensils into moving boxes, ready to move.

We can also unpack your moving boxes in your new home and put all your belongings in the cupboards.

We do all installation work except for those requiring a permit. We can install lamps and curtains, as well as a washing machine, for example.

If you can’t move directly into your new home, we can store some or all of your belongings and bring them to your new home when possible.

You can also order a final cleaning of your old home from us.

We recommend that you take out additional insurance for the duration of the move. Without additional insurance, the amount of compensation for any damage for which Niemi is liable is determined by the Road Transport Contracts Act and does not exceed EUR 20 per kilo.
